On our recent trip to Oahu, I decided to take a break from being behind the camera and jumped in front of it – boys included! While scrolling Instagram about six months before our trip I found the perfect family photographer – Amanda, owner of Amanda Paige Portraits – who also happens to be a UK graduate (small world). I set up the photo shoot for the day after we arrived and immediately started searching for matching outfits that would pop in the location we chose – think lots of greenery.

Fast forward to Sunday, November 3: photo day. The day started with a bit of bad news. We found out the location we had picked was closed and we had to choose a different spot. A beach location was easiest, although the outfits I had bought weren’t exactly ideal for a beach setting. No big deal – I was still getting family photos I had wanted for years.

T-minus 30 minutes until show time. Cue the rain – and no, not just a few drops of rain – a torrential downpour. Fun fact: this was the ONLY time it rained while we were there! After about five minutes of trying to take photos in the rain, the shoot was cancelled and all of us were drenched. We then drove an hour back to the hotel in wet clothes listening to Alex complain because there was sand all over him.

Fast forward to Friday, November 8: our last day in Hawaii. We were able to work with Amanda to reschedule the photo shoot so I quickly threw together beach outfits and hours before we boarded the plane to fly back to Atlanta, we had our family photo shoot. And while we may not have had the perfect location, timing or outfits, I think Amanda captured perfect family photos.

Warm holiday wishes from us to you!

Mele Kalikimaka!
