Today, July 10, is Chick-fil-A’s annual Cow Appreciation Day! Wear a cow costume to your favorite Chick-fil-A and score free chikin! Adults can receive a free entree and kids can receive a free kids meal during breakfast, lunch or dinner. The offer lasts until 7:00 p.m.

No costume? No problem! Any cow-like accessory will do. We went into cow preparation mode last night and used paper plates, tape, a permanent marker and free printables from Six Clever Sisters to make these cute (and easy) cow masks for our first-ever Cow Appreciation Day.

Side note: All the photos you see were edited in an app I recently discovered called HUJI Cam. It applies a disposable camera filter to photos and marks them with the current date. So, excuse me while I pretend like it’s 1998.

Fun facts: Cow Appreciation Day was created 14 years ago to celebrate the Eat Mor Chikin Cows, the restaurant chain’s iconic mascot. Last year, approximately 1.8 million customers participated — holy cow!

So, time to round up your herd for an udderly delicious (and free) meal!

The Fourth of July: a national holiday celebrating the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. And, whether you’re attending a backyard barbecue or a baseball game today, you’re sure to be celebrating Independence Day the right way!

The boys and I kicked off our Fourth of July fun a day early, heading to Whitaker Bank Ballpark to watch the Lexington Legends take on the Asheville Tourists. Is there really anything more American than baseball? The evening was filled with Big L, 25-cent hot dogs and free ice-cream, courtesy of the Lexington Legends Kids Club.

I try to dress for every occasion. For this all-American holiday I chose to wear a simple gray t-shirt dress with a little red, white and blue! I paired the dress (currently on sale for $8) and neckerchief with Madewell's Chunky Medium Hoop Earrings and some brown cutout booties from Target’s Universal Thread line. These are almost identical to Free People’s Royale Flat, but for a fraction of the cost. And, through today, get an additional 20% off with code JULY4.

Everyone is always curious where the kids' hot dog shirt came from. It's Old Navy circa 2017, but they have a similar version this year. And we snagged the shades from Children's Place. They were on clearance for $1 each.

Immediately following the game was one of our favorite events – the postgame fireworks-extravaganza! These two have always been fascinated with fireworks – like opening presents on Christmas morning or eating birthday cake – so we’ve made it an annual tradition to attend the largest fireworks show in Lexington. Oohs and aahs were heard from fans as fireworks lit up the night sky. Talk about a wow factor!

After the game we played with TNT Pop-Its. Throwing paper-wrapped rocks and watching them explode has never been so entertaining. It’s all fun and games until it’s time to clean them up!

Today, we are laying low by the pool and listening to the perfect patriotic playlist:

  • Firework, Katy Perry

  • Party in the USA, Miley Cyrus

  • Made in the USA, Demi Lovato

  • American Kids, Kenny Chesney

  • All-American Girl, Carrie Underwood

  • Born in the USA, Bruce Springsteen

  • American Woman, The Guess Who

  • Fourth of July, Fall Out Boy

What are your plans for the fourth? Whatever they may be, have fun celebrating freedom, family, and friends. Happy 242nd Birthday, America!

For most of you, today is just another ordinary day. But for us, today marks a major milestone. Today Alex turns 10. Two numbers instead of one. Double digits. A decade old!

How did this happen? It feels like just yesterday that I met him — just three-years-old and bouncing off the walls. I could have sworn he just started preschool, lost his first tooth or rode his first roller coaster. Entering the age of double digits means he isn't a baby anymore — nor does he want to be referred to as one. And I'm not sure I can handle all of this growing up business.

Oh darling don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up Just stay this little Oh darling don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up It could stay this simple

Alex is unlike anyone else in our family. He is an extrovert. He likes to be around people and can light up any room. He also never stops talking. And he doesn't just like to talk to friends and family — he will strike up conversations with total strangers. He has a brilliant mind and a kind heart, and his enthusiastic and out-going personality is simply infectious. And now, he's double as cool. Alex's birthdays have been some of the best days. Take a look back at some of my favorite party moments:

And now the double-digit 10! We celebrated the big 1-0 with cake, presents and a trip to the movie theater. We saw Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom in 3D and stocked up on popcorn, candy and icees! His favorite gift: a hoverboard that he has already mastered.

This kid makes my world go 'round. Enjoy the first day of the rest of your double-digit life. Make a wish, birthday boy!
